consolidation of the SD Corn Growers and Breeders Association, the SD Grain Growers Association, and
the SD Experiment Association. The Crop Improvement Association headquarters is housed in the new
Seed Technology Laboratory located in the Research Park at SDSU in Brookings, South Dakota. While
the organization has evolved through many changes over the years, including changes in its name, its motive
has remained the same: To foster a more stable agriculture for the state of South Dakota.

Lead molecular genetics researchers from SDSU have drafted the "genetic road map" of biofuels crop. The first rough draft of a "genetic road map" of a biomass crop, prairie cordgrass, is giving scientists an inside look at the genes of one of the crops that may help produce the next generation of biofuels. The study already has produced the "transcriptome" of the species. The transcriptome can be used somewhat like a map — it records the genes the plant uses to reach certain goals.

Research Park to test seed samples for farmers, seedsmen, South Dakota Crop Improvement
Association, and the South Dakota Department of Agriculture. The lab is equipped with modern testing
equipment necessary to perform tests on all kinds of agricultural crops, vegetables, trees, grass, and flower
seed. It is staffed with experienced, technically trained and accredited analysts (CSA and RST) and
part-time assistants who work under constant supervision. All analyses performed by the lab are made
according to the Rules for Testing Seeds published by the Association of Official Seed Analysts (AOSA). The
report issued by the lab is an official test of the sample submitted.
